| 内容記述 | An earlier paper (Goble, 1996 : pp.117-136) presented the results of a series of katakana awareness tests administered to Japanese college students aimed at measuring the degree to which students equate Japanese loanwords with actual English. The tests examined students' ability to distinguish between specific L_1 and L_2 entities and to spell and pronounce them correctly. The results of these tests showed an astonishing lack of awareness among students that Japanese loanwords and their English counterparts are not equivalent entities, while also reveal-ing an inordinate amount of mother-tongue int.interference in students' L_2 usage. This paper outlines portions of the ensuing course of study, undertaken in an effort to correct this misconception, and concludes with feedback provided by students at the completion of this study of katakana. | |||||
